In our modern, convenient way of life, we take many things for granted especially our health and fitness. Part of being healthy and fit is the fact that we are skilled at movement. And that our movement becomes more purposeful. These are the beneficial outcomes of being healthy and fit.
A skilled mover has a strong core. This statement makes me laugh, because I find that "core" and "powerhouse" seem to be overused. So much so, that it's just a matter of fact. Right? Yes. It is a matter of fact for the fitness industry and those in it. For the average non fitness industry person, this statement is meaningless. Lots of people will ask, "Well, what exactly is your core?" So, your core is your torso muscles. Your torso muscles are your butt muscles, hip girdle muscles, abdominal muscles, back muscles, and shoulder girdle muscles. Without getting into details, these are just the large muscle groupings and there are some muscles that span across multiple muscle groupings. To name them all would be laborious. So, to get back on track, when your core muscles are worked out regularly and properly, they will become strong, flexible, and stable. This makes it easier to engage the muscles for movement, whether the movement is a house hold task, backyard chore, recreational exercise, or an athletic skill. The ease of engaging muscles for movement tends to make your performance of movement look effortless. This is the mark of a skilled mover.
